It's August in Tucson and the monsoon season is winding down. And that means the barrel cactus are blooming! These are Ferocactus wislizeni also known as the "fishhook barrel cactus" and are native to the Sonoran Desert. These photos were all taken by myself of barrels growing in our yard on August 25th, 2008. They come in a gorgeous range of reds and yellows as shown.
