Footwear Trendwatch
Crocs. Those clog-like shoes you love to hate. They're everywhere. They're ugly. They're bright. They're made of some kind of plastic-y stuff. They come in a zillion colors plus Disney and Nickelodeon themes like Batman, Spiderman, Pirates, Sponge Bob, Cars, Mickey, Hannah Montana, High School Musical, etc.
Plus you can now buy
Jibbitz...little charms you can stick on your Crocs. Yet another licensing opportunity: Harry Potter, Star Wars, Disney, Bob The Builder...and more! If that is not enough they also have flags, awareness ribbons, flowers, bugs, sports emblems, rhinestones, medical, numbers, seasonal..... you can be a walking billboard for someone else's brand!

Do I own a pair?
No.

I saw them as a fad when they first arrived on the "fashion" scene.....and they turned into a viable trend. But they have lost some of their luster lately. Stock is falling, and there has been a whole rash accidents involving kids, Crocs, escalators, and toes and mangled feet. Don't believe it? It's a real concern folks! Read about Crocs and various safety concerns here, here, here, here, here, and here.
Of course most
any kind of flimsy, plastic, slip-on or zori/flip-flop style shoe can get caught in an escalator.
So, if you haven't figured it out by now, I'm not a fan of the shoes. Do I think they should be outlawed? Who knows, maybe escalators should be outlawed. But if I had a kid, they would never wear them near an escalator.

ciao,

reb
