I'm back from my Santa Fe, New Mexico trip, home to a hell of a lot of really nice art. Just got back last night. I was there for a 5-day printmaking workshop given by Keith Howard , contemporary printmaking guru. An amazing workshop, one of the best art experiences I have had in 18 years. Non-toxic printmaking is the future!
I was also very excited to attend ART Santa FE, the contemporary art fair in the rail yard district. An unbelievable art extravaganza, better than anything I have seen. That includes museum shows and other "art fairs". Plus it was all indoors and no crafty-looking stuff, giclees, or kokopelli images. Only contemporary and cutting edge art need apply.

One night a couple of us went to the biennial at SITE Santa Fe. Another amazing, cutting edge art show! This show had it all: off-site projects, interactive art, conceptual, installations, video. None of it was commercial or for sale.

Speaking of interactive, I picked up a discarded doll from one show and named her "Keiko". An artist in the show named Hiroshi Fuji did a wonderful interactive piece about the Japanese concept "kaeru", meaning transform, change, & exchange. He uses discarded toys and plastic bottles to create art pieces and encourages interaction by telling people to take the toys and create your own art. So I did. The top photo is one I took of Keiko the Discarded Doll outside SITE Santa Fe.

After my friend Julia and I left SITE, we took Keiko to dinner at Harry's Roadhouse and photographed her there at our table as well as in the street. It rained and she didn't mind at all.

Cheers,
reb
