Ow! It’s been a while! Yes, I survived Matsuri in Phoenix over the weekend. The prep and rehearsals for it were worth it. For those of you that are totally confused, Matsuri is a 2-day Festival of Japan and it’s really fun. I played taiko both days with Odaiko Sonora and the “All-AZ Taiko Group”. It was an awesome festival even though I missed Ken Koshio’s very traditional odaiko solo (a la Kodo) he performed with Fushicho Daiko.

Then after playing at 1:30pm Sunday, I drove from Phoenix to Tucson to do another gig at 5:00pm at Desert Diamond Casino. It was some kind of Chinese New Year thang and apparently they will take anything Asian.

And the four of us looked awesome in our red & black dragon costumes and Matsuri happi coats. So, yes this did have something to do with color!
