Hi folks

Two topics today! A quickie home trend watch and a few comments on a TV show I watched last night.

Home Trend Watch: “Green” is the magic word here folks! And I don’t mean the color. I mean green products! Green product news is everywhere right now. Vanity Fair magazine just did a “Green Issue”, HFN’s latest has a cover story called “The Green House Effect”. Green products and doing your part to help out Mother Nature is the new trend. Sustainable products like hemp and bamboo, recyclable products, biodegradable products, and of course energy-saving appliances. These are all big news and they are turning up everywhere now, not just specialty stores. Bamboo towels, utensil handles, flooring, and cutting boards; sustainable hemp textiles that have a soft hand, biodegradable carpet that actually breaks down in a landfill! Cool stuff and the best part is that you are helping your community and the planet when you purchase green!

Last night I watched a reality TV show called “What Not To Wear”. (BTW I’m NOT a fan of reality TV but I made an exception for this BBC show). Does anyone remember in the 1970’s and early 1980’s a trend for “getting your colors done”? I remember this because a friend of my Mom was “doing colors” for people at the time using the four seasons approach. A rather short-sided approach since it assumed there are only four types of people in the world! Gah! The reason I bring up this “fours seasons” color thing is that the TV show reminded me that there are right and wrong ways to help someone look their best and it’s not just about colors. The TV show is brilliant because it covers more than just the clothes or colors that look good on someone but also takes into account their body type, personality, life stage, profession, and their goals! How awesome is that?! It shows how clothing, hair, make-up and attitude can all come together and create a total package that let’s the person’s true self and natural beauty shine through. And that is the true meaning of “having your colors done”.

Cheers,

Reb
